Sighnaghi is a small town in eastern Georgia, on the mountainside, in the historic district of Kakheti. Center historical and geographical area Kiziki. Located on terraces connecting winding steep streets. The city emerged in the second half of the XVIII century on the site of the old fortifications. Fortifications with the same name (SGNAH) are typical of medieval Armenian melikdomov Artsakh and Syunik. Nearby is the female convent of Bodbe, located two kilometers from Sighnaghi. It contains the relics of the enlightener of Georgia, St. Nina, equal to the apostles, who died there in the year 347, at the age of 67, after the 35-year-old apostolic asceticism. Before her death, Saint Nina left in Bodbe and there, after some time, she died and was buried. Soon, at the request of King Mirian, a temple was erected over the grave of St. Nina in honor of St. George the patron saint of Georgia, and a monastery appeared next to it.
